LED Indicators
Understand what the LED colors and patterns on your Operator device mean.
2 min read
The LED on your Operator device shows what’s happening at a glance. You can also customize the LED behavior in settings.
Normal operation
White (solid)
The device is connected to your computer and in standby mode. It’s ready for you to insert a cartridge and start gaming or managing data.
Green
A game is being backed up from the cartridge to your computer. Your personal game backup is being created.
Blue
A save file is being backed up (downloaded) from the cartridge to your computer. Your progress is being preserved.
Red
Data is being uploaded to the cartridge. This could be:
- A homebrew game being written to a flashcart
- A save file being restored to the cartridge
Purple
A firmware update is in progress. Do not disconnect the device while the LED is purple. Wait for the update to complete.
Customizing the LED
You can customize your Operator’s LED in Settings > Device.
LED effects
| Effect | Description |
|---|---|
| Static | LED stays on with your chosen color |
| Dark | LED is turned off |
Custom color
When using the Static effect, you can choose any color for the standby LED. This doesn’t affect the operational colors (green, blue, red, purple) which always indicate the current activity.
Troubleshooting LED issues
LED rapidly flashing white
This indicates a USB communication problem. See Device LED Rapidly Flashing for solutions.
LED not powering on
The device isn’t receiving power. See LED Not Powering On for troubleshooting steps.
LED stuck on purple
If the LED stays purple for more than 5 minutes, the firmware update may have stalled. See LED Stuck on Purple for recovery steps.
Tips
- Always wait for operations to complete before disconnecting
- A solid white LED means the device is ready
- During data transfers, avoid moving the cartridge or cable
- If you see unexpected LED behavior, check your USB connection first
