GB/GBC/GBA Cartridge Support

The GB Operator supports all officially licensed Nintendo® Game Boy® games. Here’s a technical breakdown of the Memory Bank Controllers (MBCs) we support.

What is an MBC?

Memory Bank Controllers are chips inside Game Boy cartridges that manage game data and save memory access. Different games use different MBCs depending on their size and features.

Fully supported MBCs

The GB Operator supports the following MBCs for both game reading and save reading/writing:

• No MBC — Simple games without banking
• MBC1 — All revisions
• MBC2 — All revisions
• MBC3 — All revisions (including real-time clock games)
• MBC30 — All revisions
• MBC5 — All revisions, including rumble packages
• MBC6 — Used in Net de Get: Minigame @ 100
• MBC7 — All revisions (accelerometer games)
• MMM01 — Multi-game cartridges (Momotarou Collection 2, etc.)
• Pocket Camera MBC — All revisions and regions
• HuC1 — All revisions (Hudson Soft games)
• HuC3 — All revisions (Hudson Soft games)
• TAMA5 — Used in Game de Hakken!! Tamagotchi

Compatibility note

This covers virtually all officially licensed Game Boy, Game Boy Color®, and Game Boy Advance® games. If you have issues with a licensed game, contact us — we can likely add support.

Unlicensed games

Reproduction cartridges and counterfeit games may use non-standard or modified MBCs. See Flashcart Support for information about these cartridges.
