Firmware Updates
How to update your Operator device firmware.
2 min read
Firmware updates improve your Operator device with new features, better compatibility, and bug fixes. Updates are delivered automatically through the Playback app.
How updates work
When a firmware update is available:
- Playback will notify you that an update is ready
- Click to begin the update
- The LED will turn purple during the update
- Wait for the update to complete
- The LED returns to white when finished
During the update
Important: Do not disconnect the device while the LED is purple.
- The update typically takes less than a minute
- Keep the device connected directly to your computer
- Avoid using USB hubs during updates for the most reliable connection
If an update fails
If the LED stays purple for more than 5 minutes:
- Wait at least 5 minutes before taking action (the update may still be in progress)
- Disconnect and restart the Playback app
- Reconnect the device and try the update again
- If the issue persists, try a different USB port or computer
See LED Stuck on Purple for detailed recovery steps.
Best practices
- Keep Playback updated to ensure you receive firmware updates
- Use the included USB cable for the most reliable connection
- Connect directly to your computer rather than through USB hubs
- Don’t interrupt updates once they’ve started
Checking your firmware version
You can view your current firmware version in Playback’s settings or device information screen.
