Picture-in-Picture Mode
Play games in a floating window while using other applications.
2 min read
Picture-in-Picture (PiP) mode lets you play your game in a small floating window while using other applications.
Availability
| Platform | PiP Supported |
|---|---|
| Windows® | Yes |
| macOS® | Yes |
| Linux | No |
Enabling PiP
PiP must first be enabled in settings:
- Open Settings (click the Playback logo > Settings)
- Go to Playback
- Find Enable Picture-in-Picture
- Toggle it on
Activating PiP during gameplay
- Start a game from your cartridge
- Move your mouse to reveal the control bar at the bottom of the screen
- Click the PiP button — located near the right side of the control bar, just left of the fullscreen button
The PiP icon looks like a large rectangle with a small rectangle in the corner.
What happens
When you activate PiP:
- The game window shrinks to 1/4 of your screen size
- It moves to the bottom-right corner of your screen
- The window stays always on top of other applications
- The navigation bar hides to maximize the game view
Exiting PiP mode
To return to the normal window, click the close button (X) on the PiP window.
This restores Playback to its normal windowed mode — it does not quit the application.
Notes
- PiP is hidden during fullscreen mode — exit fullscreen first if you want to use PiP
- The Escape key is disabled in PiP mode to prevent accidentally exiting your game
- You can still access all control bar features (pause, rewind, fast-forward, etc.) while in PiP mode
